Turning a new spindle for my old 109 lathe.

Made from 1" tool steel

This is the cut on the 0.551" section almost finished. Used back gear and a slow feed. Each pass took about 12 minutes. As this was tool steel, needed to go slow to prevent work hardening.

Front of spindle finished ready to be cut off.

Completed spindle on top, old on bottom. Still needed to grind notch for set screw.

Came out well. The tool steel relaxed a bit and there is a bit of warp, but it was adjusted for by turning the face of the spindle on with it mounted in the old lathe.

Final diameter was 0.550 instead of 0.551". Was my error of measuring it warm after turning.
